Born into a family of leather workers, he continued the legacy of his father, Wilhelm Knoll, who had founded a successful leather workshop in Stuttgart in the 19th century.
Walter took the family's craft heritage into the modern era and founded his own company in 1925.
Walter brought a modern vision to furniture design, combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics.
His company became known for its high-quality upholstered furniture and was one of the first in Germany to produce modern seating influenced by the Bauhaus movement.
Today, Walter Knoll Gmbh is internationally known for its timeless design, exceptional quality and commitment to innovation in interior design.
