This pair of Hombre lounge chairs was designed by Burkhard Vogtherr for Rosenthal and is one of the characteristic furniture designs of German design in the 1970s. The Hombre series was part of the Rosenthal furniture program, with which the company, known for its porcelain and design culture, expanded its portfolio to include high-quality furniture. Rosenthal worked with renowned designers such as Burkhard Vogtherr, Vico Magistretti, and Günter Ferdinand Ris. Vogtherr's design thrives on its striking, almost architectural construction. The massive, dark stained wooden frames, with their generously rounded runners and armrests, form a continuous line. The softly upholstered seat and back cushions made of black leather appear to almost float within them. The combination of the powerful wooden construction and the soft leather gives the chairs their unmistakable character and at the same time a very comfortable, relaxed seat. The offered pair is in a good, authentic vintage condition with visible patina. Especially on the edges and curves of the dark wooden frames, there are signs of age and use, which are clearly visible in the detailed photos. The black leather is generally nice and soft and supple and has an attractive, naturally developed patina. On the back of one chair, there is a deeper scratch in the leather. Burkhard Vogtherr is one of the important German furniture designers of his generation. His designs are characterized by clear construction, functional solutions, and a concise design language. With the Hombre series, he created an extensive living and contract furniture program for Rosenthal, which is now one of the sought-after designs of the Rosenthal Furniture Program. Rosenthal itself explicitly lists Hombre in its design history as one of Vogtherr's striking designs.
