Set of 2 Antique Wooden Glue Clamps / Bookends (ca. 1900) - Characterful Craftsmanship! Description: Offered: A beautiful, authentic set of two antique wooden glue clamps (carpenter's clamps) from the late 19th or early 20th century (circa 1880 - 1930). This is a fantastic piece of weathered tooling with a beautiful patina, perfect as a rustic eye-catcher in a country, industrial, or brocante interior. For example, they are ideal for use as unique and sturdy bookends! Authentic craftsmanship with unique details.
Although the wooden frames are almost the same size (making them a visually perfect set), the details show that this is genuine old handiwork and not mass production. The clamps differ subtly from one another.
One clamp has a thicker thread (spindle) with a shorter handle, built for brute force. The other clamp has a slightly slimmer, finer thread with a longer handle for more leverage and precision. A beautiful mix of materials. The clamps truly showcase traditional craftsmanship. The frames and spindles are made of sleek, splinter-free beech wood, while the cross blocks (which must absorb most of the tension) are made of extremely strong, robust oak.
Condition: The tool is made entirely of wood (including the screw threads) and is in beautiful, weathered vintage condition. A few characteristic woodworm holes are visible in the oak blocks of one clamp. These are dark on the inside and there is no sawdust; the woodworm is therefore completely old and inactive, meaning the clamps can be placed directly and safely in the home.
