In the 1800s, as pioneers crossed America westward, they discovered hickory, a useful and remarkable tree.
In the 1890s, Billy Richardson began selling hickory chairs and rocking chairs on Saturdays in the town square of Martinsville, Indiana.
Old Hickory furniture became so popular that it was delivered to new lodges in Western national parks, as well as to Great Camps and resorts in Adirondack Park. The most famous installation is at the Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone National Park. The original dining chairs, delivered in 1904, are still in use today, more than 110 years later.
