Product description
Elegant lidded vegetable dish in genuine French porcelain, bearing the SEP France Sélection stamp on its base, a mark found on French dinnerware sets from the second half of the 20th century. With its low and wide-mouthed shape, this is indeed a lidded vegetable dish, and not a soup tureen. A piece designed to take pride of place at the center of the table and to accompany those dinner services where each element still had its specific function and contributed to the elegance of the meal. The white porcelain boasts a beautiful line, generous without being massive. The two openwork handles harmoniously extend the body's movement, while the slightly domed lid is finished with a sculpted knob featuring botanical curves. The decoration subtly features a garland of silvery-grey foliage, accompanied by silver fillets that highlight the contours, the handles, and the lid's knob. A delicate composition, typical of this period when French tableware evolved towards greater sobriety while retaining the refinement inherited from great porcelain traditions. The stamp 'Véritable Porcelaine – SEP – France – Sélection' links the piece to SEP's French productions, of which various dinnerware elements are found today, including platters, plates, sauce boats, and vegetable dishes. The company offered coordinated sets in which the elegance of the form and the quality of the porcelain held an essential place. With its approximately 24 cm in diameter, this vegetable dish has a beautiful presence without being cumbersome. On a contemporary table, its luminous white and silver decoration allow it to easily transcend its original context. It can be paired with more modern white dinnerware, with crystal, or with a deliberately mismatched table combining antique pieces and modern lines. It comes to us in remarkable condition, both the porcelain and the decoration having retained all their elegance. No chips or cracks observed. A beautiful piece of French tableware, both decorative and perfectly usable, that harks back to an era when even vegetables were served in their own porcelain. Circa .
