Flavio Poli, Murano – Two-Tone Sommerso Crystal Bowl (Uranium & Ruby), 1950s
A refined and highly sculptural small bowl designed by Flavio Poli, one of the key innovators of Italian mid-century glass. Created using the iconic sommerso technique, the piece features a rich ruby-red core encased within a faceted outer layer of uranium glass, producing a striking sense of depth and light.
The bold geometric form, reminiscent of a cut gemstone, is characteristic of Poli’s work and reflects the modernist aesthetic developed at Seguso Vetri d’Arte in the 1950s. The precise faceting enhances light refraction, creating vivid transitions between red and green tones.
Under ultraviolet light, the uranium glass emits its signature bright green glow, adding an extra layer of visual intrigue. Such combinations of uranium and colored crystal are increasingly rare and especially appreciated by collectors.
The piece retains its original Murano label, confirming its authenticity.
Condition is very good for its age, with a couple of small chips on the edges of the facets, visible in the photos.
Compact yet visually striking, this object works equally well as a decorative accent, ashtray, or collectible design piece.
