Product description
Beautiful sculpture in blue glazed terracotta, depicting a seated nude woman, legs crossed in a calm, meditative posture. The style is halfway between naïve art and art brut: simple forms, expressive face, fixed, melancholy gaze, with a very particular charm. There's a real sensitivity to posture and detail. The deep blue enamel, enhanced by touches of golden yellow (especially on the hair), adds a poetic presence to this piece. The deliberately stylized treatment evokes the approaches of modern artists influenced by instinct and emotion rather than realism. Signed DOMP, dated 1998, and numbered 72.
