Rare sculptural floor lamp designed by Aldo Van Den Nieuwelaar in The Netherlands during the 1970s. Most likely produced in a limited edition under the designer’s own direction, the lamp features several of his distinctive design signatures and a strong, reduced geometric composition. The design rests on Van Den Nieuwelaar’s characteristic circular base, from which a slender metal stem rises to support a semi-spherical opaline glass shade. The shade is held within a black synthetic ring, creating the impression that the glass dome is floating above the slender structure. The contrast between the soft, diffused glass and the precise, graphic metal construction gives the lamp a distinctive architectural presence. Elegant and reduced to its essential forms, the design reflects Van Den Nieuwelaar’s characteristic approach to geometry, proportion, and function. The combination of the circular base, slender stem, and floating glass dome results in a quietly sculptural and highly recognizable composition. Presented in wonderful vintage condition. A rare and highly decorative piece by one of The Netherlands’ most distinctive post-war designers, and a beautiful addition to a modernist, minimalist, or contemporary interior.
