This ceramic catch-all dish transports us back to the extraordinary creative freedom that characterized Vallauris during the 1960s and 1970s. Ceramics then readily left the dining table to grace consoles, bookshelves, and coffee tables. Forms became free-flowing, glazes bolder, and everyday objects gradually took on the appearance of small sculptures. This is precisely what gives this piece its charm. Its asymmetrical silhouette unfolds with a particularly elegant movement. The dish stretches gradually before rising into a long, curved end, almost as if formed with a single gesture. One can perceive in it a folded leaf, a wave, a horn, or simply that organic abstraction so characteristic of 1960s-1970s aesthetics. The glaze work is remarkable. Deep browns mingle with ochre and amber-yellow tones, punctuated by spectacular cream and pearl-grey crystallizations. The firing process created irregular branching patterns that evoke sea foam, feathers, or certain mineral formations. Light catches these different textures, successively revealing the nuances of the glaze. It is also a true catch-all dish, designed for living beautifully within an interior. On a console in an entryway, on a dresser top to hold jewelry and small objects, or on a coffee table alongside beautiful books and a smoked glass vase. In the post-war decades, Vallauris experienced a period of remarkable effervescence. There, ceramists experimented with forms, clays, glazes, and firing techniques, giving birth to a whole generation of objects where the boundary between utility and decoration deliberately blurred. Dimensions: approximately 17 cm long, 12 cm wide, 10 cm maximum height. Good vintage condition.
