Sculptural Dome Table Lamp in Cylindrical Rosewood, Brazil, circa 1960
A highly sculptural and extremely rare Brazilian table lamp from circa 1960, featuring three solid rosewood cylinders crowned with opaline milky glass dome shades. The composition reflects the distinctive Brazilian Modernist design tradition, in which organic materials and architectural forms are combined to create a striking object that balances both function and sculptural presence.
Examples of this model surface only very rarely on the market. As is often the case with mid-century Brazilian design, documentation is scarce, and the designer of this particular piece remains unknown. Its quality of execution, elegant proportions and striking use of materials, however, speak for themselves.
The lamp features beautifully grained rosewood and three original milky glass dome shades that emit a wonderfully soft and atmospheric glow. There is one small chip to one of the glass shades, but it is completely hidden beneath the wooden cylinder when assembled and is therefore invisible in use.
A rare and important example of Brazilian Modernist lighting, and a piece we are particularly proud to offer.
