A rare pair of wall-mounted bedside tables by Gemla, Sweden, circa 1930s. These elegant floating nightstands are exemplary of early Swedish modern design, combining the refined craftsmanship of bentwood construction with clean, functional lines. Each table features a beautifully curved bentwood frame supporting a textured cast glass top, creating a striking contrast between the warmth of the wood and the tactile surface of the glass. Beneath the top is an integrated open shelf, originally intended for storing books, magazines, or other bedside essentials. Their wall-mounted construction gives the pieces a remarkably light and architectural appearance—an innovative solution for the period that feels equally relevant in contemporary interiors. Manufactured by Gemla, one of Sweden's most celebrated furniture makers, these bedside tables demonstrate the company's renowned expertise in steam-bent wood and timeless Scandinavian craftsmanship. The design and use of bentwood has resemblance to Alvar Aalto's minimalism.
