Satsuma-style ceramic decorative egg set on a small wooden base. Satsuma appeared when the Shimazu family of the Satsuma estate south of Kyūshū settled skilled Korean potters after the Japanese invasion of Korea (1592-1598) led by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in order to establish a local pottery industry1,2. Later, after being exhibited at the 1867 World's Fair in Paris, it proved a popular export to Europe. It is painted on a white background with very colorful motifs, with parts in gold paint representing flowers, fruits, a band in pointillism paint, areas in squares with a glossy finish. This egg is in perfect condition, with very few traces of wear. An original gift idea for Christmas or any other occasion with this beautiful, highly decorative egg, or simply to treat yourself by placing it on your table, it will brighten up your home with its beautiful colors.
