Product description
Sometimes, just a few colors are enough to transport you back to an era. With its deep browns, caramel nuances, smoky earth tones, and almost mineral flows, this Sarreguemines Hawaï vase embodies all the decorative boldness of the 1970s. Sarreguemines at that time boasted nearly two centuries of expertise. Yet, far from merely reproducing the designs that had made its reputation, the factory embraced the aesthetic upheavals of its era. Shapes changed, colors deepened, materiality took on new importance, and research into glazes gave birth to much freer designs. Hawaï fully belongs to this adventure. Featuring a generous, almost amphora-like shape, two large handles elegantly rise from the belly to the neck. The silhouette thus retains something of ancient vases while being immediately transformed by the aesthetic of the seventies. The eye is first drawn to the browns. They range from caramel to almost black chocolate, meeting shades of earth, ocher, and very dark green, then suddenly seem to break through into large areas of light glaze. This is where Hawaï becomes particularly captivating. The glaze forms an irregular, almost frothy texture, which, depending on the light, evokes foam dying on a volcanic rock, cooled lava, or even a mineral lace deposited on the earth. Each side boasts its own movements, firing imperfections, and interactions between glazes. It is precisely these variations that give the piece its character. Underneath the base appear the manufacturer's mark, the Sarreguemines France emblem, the name HAWAÏ, and the inscription "Peint main" (Hand-painted). We are not looking at an anonymous ceramic piece. We know where it comes from, we know its design, we know its era. With its 20 cm height and ample two-handled silhouette, it boasts a remarkable presence. Placed on a wooden console, paired with travertine, linen, or contemporary furniture, this vase immediately sheds its role as a mere souvenir to reveal the full modernity of its material. A true piece of 1970s French decoration, signed by one of our great manufacturers, at the crossroads of decorative object and mineral landscape.
