Fine earthenware tureen, ironstone, with blue transfer decoration, "Carmen" pattern from the Sarreguemines factory, late 19th or early 20th century. Beautifully round shape resting on a small foot, original side handles and lid, all adorned with a delicate floral design in an elegant and romantic naturalistic style.
Maximum width approximately 29 cm including handles, diameter approximately 24 cm, height approximately 24 cm with lid and 14 cm without. Very good overall condition, with a small hairline crack on the rim and a second, longer one near/at the base of a handle, both discreet and not detrimental to its integrity. There are some traces of patina on the exterior consistent with age, fine and natural crazing of the glaze, as well as slight firing flaws, particularly at the joint of one handle. The interior shows a slightly browned patina from use with a few stains, consistent with age and use. Approximately 1.200 kg.
