Product description
This dish commands attention at first glance. The deep cobalt blue of the Capri pattern brilliantly contrasts with the pure white of the earthenware, creating that sharp and luminous contrast which is the signature of great French manufactures from the interwar period. On the wide rim, a continuous frieze of large, blooming roses unfolds all around the dish. The flowers, rendered with remarkable precision by transfer print, alternate with bouquets of finely detailed foliage. On the outer edge, a dark blue geometric lattice frieze neatly frames the design with the characteristic rigor of the Art Deco style from the 1920s-1930s. The background, an immaculate white, allows light to truly shine. The Sarreguemines factory, founded in 1790 in Moselle, is one of the oldest and most prestigious French earthenware manufacturers. In the 19th century, it expanded to Digoin and became a major player in European production. In the 1920s-1930s, it developed intense cobalt blue patterns, influenced by Art Deco trends and the fashion for blues and whites. The Capri pattern is one of the most accomplished of this period. The blue escutcheon stamp on the reverse, with the inscription "Sarreguemines et Digoin France", accurately dates the piece. With its 33 cm diameter, this dish has a considerable presence. In an open display cabinet, it captures the light and the eye. On a carefully set table, it becomes the centerpiece around which everything is arranged. The cobalt blue pairs well with white linen, antique silverware, and blown glass. Very good condition, some light traces of use on the reverse, flawless front. Additional details: - Brand: Sarreguemines - Material: Faïence - Colour: bleu cobalt - Colour: bleu foncé - Period: 1920s-1930s
