A beautiful design piece from the 1960s by the Italian designer Elio Martinelli. He was the founder of Martinelli Luce, one of the most prominent Italian lighting manufacturers of the second half of the twentieth century.
Saliscendi is Italian for 'up and down' and refers to the pulley system hidden inside the sphere above the lampshade. It is unique that this system is integrated into the lamp itself, whereas with a pull-cord pendant it is normally attached to the ceiling.
With its round, almost spherical shape, this lamp bears the distinct signature of Elio Martinelli. As founder and chief designer, he established this style throughout the entire Martinelli Luce collection, with his own designs such as the Cobra and Bolla, and under his leadership also produced world-famous pieces such as the Pipistrello by Gae Aulenti.
After sixty years, the lamp shows some signs of use. On the inside of the metal part, the paint has peeled slightly in places, but this is barely visible when the lamp is hanging, as the spots are mainly located on the top. Please see the photos for details.
With its substantial size of no less than 55 cm in diameter and featuring three E14 light points, this is a stunning eye-catcher for above a large dining table or in another large room. A work of art that we proudly have in our collection, but also wish to give a beautiful spot where others can enjoy it too.
