A charming old earthenware bowl from Salins-les-Bains, a testament to those French table arts that knew how to give everyday objects a true personality. Its generous shape is extended by two lateral handles, while the body features a delightful polychrome floral decoration. Yellow, pink, and wine-red flowers mingle with deep blue foliage, in a free and joyful composition. An elegant dark red scalloped border highlights the rim and adds a lot of character to the piece. The interior, in a beautiful ivory tone, shows a network of old enamel crazing, characteristic of the natural aging of some earthenware and particularly decorative here. It gives the piece that patina that only history can create. The Salins factory, located in Salins-les-Bains in the Jura, belongs to the great French earthenware tradition. During the interwar period, it developed a particularly appealing production, where tableware forms met stylized and colorful floral decorations perfectly representative of the taste of the era. This bowl, which we date to around the 1930s-1940s, retains all the charm of a bygone French table. It can naturally resume its use, but also has enough presence to be simply displayed in a kitchen, a display cabinet, or among a collection of antique earthenware. A beautiful Salins piece, warm, authentic, and uniquely decorative with the passage of time.
