Ruben Toledo, born in Havana, Cuba, in 1960, soon moved with his family to New York. He is a painter, sculptor, illustrator, reporter, and fashion critic, as well as a surrealist artist of considerable renown. The constant, sudden changes in fashion and the body language of style are two constants that appear in his work, naturally inspired by Latin taste, but also owes much to American pop culture due to his capacity for modern synthesis. Ruben Toledo is the artist and author of the renowned Style Dictionary, a collection of unforgettable images, in the form of drawings and watercolors, that blend the ephemeral nature of fashion with the eternal essence of style. He has painted murals, portraits, and album covers. He was also the passionate author of highly personal illustrations for major fashion magazines such as "Uomo Vogue," "Harper's Bazaar," "Paper," and "Interview." His work has been exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Isabel Toledo, Ruben's wife, is an established stylist and fashion designer, as well as his muse and an integral part of his projects. Their ongoing collaboration recently resulted in a book and an exhibition titled "Toledo-Toledo: A Marriage of Art and Fashion," held at the Museum of Fashion and Technology in New York, the city where they both live and work.
This tile was also presented at the Milan Furniture Fair on April 7, 2014.
