A beautiful, authentic Delft Blue wall plate from the world-famous Royal Delft factory, dating from 1947.
This plate is an excellent example of Dutch craftsmanship from the early post-war period. The central decoration depicts a richly filled flower basket, a classic motif symbolizing abundance and hospitality, framed by a refined floral border.
Unique features of this lot:
Painter: The plate is entirely hand-painted by master painter Hermanus van de Velde (initials HV). Van de Velde was a highly experienced worker who worked at the factory from 1892 to 1952; this plate represents the peak of his skill.
Dating: Provided with the year code BR, which represents the year 1947.
Technique: Authentic Delft Blue, with the decoration applied to the unfired glaze using cobalt oxide.
Condition: In excellent vintage condition. No chips, no restorations, and the sheen has been beautifully preserved.
