Set of 4 Arne Vodder Model 422 Rosewood Dining Chairs for Sibast — Denmark, 1960s
An elegant set of four Model 422 dining chairs, designed by the Danish designer Arne Vodder for Sibast in the 1960s. A refined example of Danish Modern, combining slender proportions, high-quality materials, and subtle detailing.
The most characteristic element is the high, open backrest. The slender vertical spindles give the chairs a distinct graphic silhouette, while the slightly curved top rail provides a softer contrast. The rosewood has a deep, warm grain that truly comes to life, especially in natural light.
The seats have been professionally reupholstered with a high-quality fabric in a subdued green-yellow hue. The combination with the dark rosewood gives the set a rich, almost architectural appearance without looking heavy.
Precisely this balance makes these chairs interesting for both a distinctive mid-century interior and a more contemporary setting. Around a rosewood or natural stone dining table, a warm, classic combination is created; with glass, steel, or a minimalist table, the chairs gain a stronger sculptural character.
Arne Vodder is one of the important names in Danish post-war design and studied under Finn Juhl. His work is characterized by clear constructions, elegant lines, and a special attention to wood. The collaboration with Sibast resulted in various designs that are now beloved by collectors of Danish Modern.
