A sculptural trio of Rosenthal Studio-Line vases from the celebrated “Pisa” series designed by Werner Uhl. Executed in matte white bisque porcelain, the three vessels represent a refined study in geometric rhythm and minimalist form, characteristic of Rosenthal’s experimental Studio-Line program of the late twentieth century.
The “Pisa” design is distinguished by its subtly twisting vertical geometry and the distinctive stepped tessellation that wraps around the body of each vase. The surfaces appear almost architectural, as if composed of stacked planes that spiral gently upward. This interplay of geometry and light produces a dynamic shadow pattern that changes depending on the viewing angle.
The matte bisque porcelain finish enhances the sculptural quality of the objects. Unlike glossy porcelain, bisque surfaces absorb light softly, emphasizing the texture and relief of the tessellated pattern while giving the pieces a refined, almost velvety presence.
Together the three vases form a harmonious architectural composition through variation in height. The proportions progress elegantly from compact to tall, allowing them to be displayed as a balanced trio or used individually as sculptural accents.

Condition
Very good vintage condition with minimal signs of age. The pieces remain structurally sound with well-preserved matte surfaces. As typical for bisque porcelain, slight handling traces may be present but do not detract from the overall appearance.

Design context
Werner Uhl designed the “Pisa” series as part of Rosenthal’s influential Studio-Line program, which from the 1960s onward invited artists, architects, and designers to create innovative porcelain objects that bridged functional design and sculptural form. The series reflects a modernist approach to form: disciplined geometry combined with subtle movement.
The rhythmic surface pattern evokes Op Art and geometric abstraction of the late twentieth century, recalling the visual logic of artists such as Victor Vasarely while remaining firmly rooted in functional design.
