Rosenthal Studio Line Porcelain Vase Trio – Michael Boehm, Jan van der Vaart & Harry/Camilla, Germany, 1990s–2000s
A highly refined sculptural trio in glossy white porcelain from Rosenthal Studio Line, bringing together three distinct approaches to contemporary European design:
• Michael Boehm’s “Debut” — architectural and disciplined
• Jan van der Vaart’s asymmetrical geometric vessel — rigorous Dutch modernism
• Harry & Camilla’s “Blu Canela” — soft, playful minimal sculpture
Despite their different formal languages, the three pieces achieve remarkable harmony through proportion, silhouette, and the immaculate purity of Rosenthal’s glossy white porcelain. Together they create a sophisticated conversation between geometry, asymmetry, and sculptural reduction.

About the Designers
Michael Boehm belongs to the generation of designers who defined Rosenthal’s refined late-modernist language during the late 20th century. His “Debut” series is characterized by architectural clarity, carefully interrupted geometry, and a quiet monumentality. The vase’s curved upper rim softens the otherwise strict cylindrical body, creating a subtle tension between movement and stability.
Dutch ceramic artist Jan van der Vaart was one of the most influential figures in postwar European ceramics. Known for his reductionist forms and mathematical sense of proportion, he approached ceramics almost architecturally. His Rosenthal designs translate his signature language into industrial porcelain with remarkable elegance: restrained, asymmetrical, and intellectually rigorous.
The “Blu Canela” vase by designers Harry & Camilla introduces a more playful and object-like dimension. Compact and sculptural, its folded opening transforms a simple rounded volume into something unexpectedly dynamic and contemporary — somewhere between vessel, abstract sculpture, and design experiment.
Why This Trio Works
• Three generations of European modernist porcelain design
• A compelling interplay between architectural rigor and sculptural softness
• Unified by Rosenthal’s pristine glossy white porcelain
• Perfect for minimalist interiors, collectors, stylists, or architectural spaces
• Each piece functions independently while forming a highly coherent ensemble
Design Context
Rosenthal Studio Line became internationally important because it invited artists, architects, ceramicists, and industrial designers to treat porcelain not simply as decorative craft, but as a medium for sculptural and conceptual experimentation.
This trio beautifully demonstrates that evolution:
• Boehm represents disciplined German late modernism
• Van der Vaart brings Dutch geometric abstraction
• Harry & Camilla introduce softer post-2000 sculptural minimalism
Seen together, the objects function almost like a compressed history of contemporary European porcelain design across several decades.
A luminous and quietly intellectual ensemble — sculptural, architectural, and unmistakably Rosenthal.
