Product description
Rosenthal Studio Line – Antje Brüggemann-Breckwoldt Large Stillleben Sculptural Lidded Box (1980s) Porcelain with matte finish · Germany · Height 10 cm · 23 × 17.5 cm, unused in original box! This impressive, organically shaped lidded box is part of Rosenthal’s sculptural Stillleben series, created in the 1980s by German artist Antje Brüggemann-Breckwoldt. The design plays with the poetry of everyday objects: draped cloth, fruit forms, and softly modelled geometries translate the classical still-life genre into an elegant three-dimensional composition. The lid features a trio of stylised apples resting on a gently folded textile relief — a restrained, monochromatic tableau that is both serene and tactile. The matte surface, subtly nuanced in warm ivory tones, enhances the sculptural clarity of the piece. Characteristic for this series, the box shows fine hand-modelled textures, expressive folds, and the slightly irregular charm of small-batch artistic production within Rosenthal’s Studio Line program. Artist – Antje Brüggemann-Breckwoldt A sculptor and designer working in the intersection of applied art and contemporary ceramic form, Brüggemann-Breckwoldt created several notable editions for Rosenthal during the 1980s. Her work is marked by a quiet theatricality — objects that feel simultaneously classical and modern, with a clear emphasis on naturalistic motifs, finely observed textures, and sculptural minimalism. Rosenthal Studio Line – Context Initiated in the 1960s under Philip Rosenthal, the Studio Line became a landmark in post-war German design, inviting leading artists, sculptors, and architects to create highly innovative, limited-run objects. The Stillleben pieces belong to the later decades of this movement — collectible editions that merge sculpture and functional domestic design with unmistakable Rosenthal refinement.
