Quiet Luxury in Monumental Volume
Roche Bobois has been one of the leading names in international designer furniture for decades. In collaboration with renowned designers, the French house develops collections in which contemporary design, high-quality materials, and exceptional craftsmanship come together. The Rive Droite series by Christophe Delcourt is one of the earlier collaborations between designer and manufacturer and already displays the design language that would later define Delcourt's international reputation.
Offered is a generous coffee table from this now discontinued series, executed in warm medium brown oak veneer on a dimensionally stable MDF construction. With dimensions of 130 × 130 × 30 cm, the table forms a powerful centerpiece of a spacious seating area without becoming visually dominant. The low horizontal lines and carefully rounded radius corners ensure that the substantial volume appears remarkably light and balanced.
The design distinguishes itself through its architectural simplicity. No decorative details, visible joints, or fashionable accents have been added. The quality arises entirely from the proportions, the refined finish, and the subtle interplay between closed and open volumes. The integrated lower shelf creates a shadow zone, making the table appear to float above the floor, while simultaneously providing practical storage space for books, magazines, or carefully selected objects.
This approach is characteristic of Christophe Delcourt. His furniture is designed to remain a long-lasting part of an interior, rather than to follow a temporary trend. The combination of natural materials, monumental tranquility, and refined detailing ensures that his designs feel at home in both minimalist architecture and warmer, more layered interiors.
The table is in very well-maintained used condition. The veneer has retained a beautifully uniform color, and the wood grain is beautifully showcased beneath the satin finish. There are only a few limited signs of use, including minor cosmetic damage to the top and a few light scuff marks along the edge, consistent with normal use. These do not detract from the appearance or functionality.
Now that this version is no longer produced by Roche Bobois and Christophe Delcourt is increasingly appreciated internationally, this table constitutes not only a high-quality functional object but also an interesting early design within his oeuvre. This makes it attractive to both the design enthusiast and the collector who values quality, provenance, and design history.
