A beautiful expression of 1970s Japanese ceramics, featuring that warm and deeply organic aesthetic characteristic of stoneware productions from this period. This Rocaille pitcher, a registered Japanese design, first captivates with its material. The stoneware retains the fine concentric striations from its shaping, highlighted by a remarkable pyritic glaze in shades of deep brown, honey, ocher, and golden beige. The firing created a multitude of speckles and nuances in the glaze, giving the surface a particularly interesting depth. The silhouette is also very well executed. A widely flared base provides stability to the piece, while the body narrows slightly before meeting a pronounced neck. The generously rolled rim extends into a pinched spout, almost sculpted from the material. On the opposite side, the large curved handle, crafted in the same brown tones, brings a beautiful balance to the whole. At approximately 16 cm in height, it possesses a real presence. Originally a table pitcher, it is now just as appealing when repurposed as a vase for a few flowers, or simply displayed on its own among a collection of 1970s stoneware and ceramics. The underside retains its original mark "Rocaille – Registered Design – Japan," an interesting element that connects the piece to this Japanese production, now sought after for its characteristic aesthetic. Beautiful vintage condition. The visible color variations, small irregularities, and material effects are characteristic of this type of glazed stoneware and contribute to its character.
