A wonderful expression of 1970s Japanese ceramics, with that warm and deeply organic aesthetic that characterizes stoneware productions of this period. This Rocaille pitcher, a Japan registered design, first captivates with its material. The stoneware retains the fine concentric striations from its shaping, highlighted by a remarkable pyritic glaze in shades of deep brown, honey, ocher, and golden beige. The firing created a multitude of speckles and nuances in the glaze, giving the surface a particularly interesting depth. The silhouette is also very well-executed. A widely flared base gives the piece a stable foundation, while the body narrows slightly before meeting a pronounced neck. The generously rolled rim extends into a pinched spout, almost sculpted from the material. Opposite, the large curved handle, crafted in the same brown tones, brings a beautiful balance to the whole piece. At approximately 16 cm in height, it possesses a true presence. Originally a table pitcher, today it is just as appealing when repurposed as a vase for a few flowers or simply displayed alone among a collection of 1970s stoneware and ceramics. The underside retains its original stamp "Rocaille – Registered Design – Japan," an interesting element that connects the piece to this Japanese production now sought after for its characteristic aesthetic. Good vintage condition. The color variations, small irregularities, and visible material effects are characteristic of this type of glazed stoneware and contribute to its character. Height approximately 16 cm. Opening approximately 10 cm. Japan, 1970s.
