About Robert Tatin
Robert Tatin (1902-1983) is a major figure in 20th-century French Outsider Art.
Painter, sculptor, ceramicist, builder, and traveler, he developed a profoundly personal body of work, drawing on mythologies, spirituality, folk art, and world cultures.
After numerous trips to South America and frequenting Parisian artistic circles in the post-war period, he embarked in the 1960s on the creation of his most famous monumental work: his estate in Cossé-le-Vivien in Mayenne, now the Robert Tatin Museum.
This extraordinary place, blending architecture, sculpture, and symbolism, is often compared to great artists' environments such as the Palais Idéal of Ferdinand Cheval or certain examples of Art Brut and Visionary art.
Robert Tatin's work is currently experiencing a resurgence of interest among:
