Rare and highly sought-after “Hamilton” sideboard, designed by Robert Heritage and produced by Archie Shine in 1957.
Winner of the Design Centre Award in 1958, this model was among the first long, low British-made sideboards — a pioneering form that came to define modern furniture throughout the 1960s.
Made in beautifully figured walnut veneer with polished brass trumpet handles and tapered legs, it combines functionality with refined mid-century British craftsmanship.
Heritage’s designs, retailed through Heals of London, represented the height of contemporary style and quality in their day.
This example is in good vintage condition, with gentle fading, minor marks and surface scratches consistent with careful use. Recently cleaned and revived, the grain on the top has a striking figure and the piece presents beautifully overall.
A true icon of British modernism, from one of the country’s most respected design collaborations.
Light and even wear consistent with age. Some gentle sun fading and a few small dents, but no significant scratches.
The piece has been carefully maintained by a single family since new and remains in excellent vintage condition. The original green baize in the cutlery drawer is present, naturally faded and worn in keeping with its age. The walnut grain shows a beautiful warm figure.
