When in the early 1960s the Dutch "Gelderland" was looking to connect with the market for modern furniture, they decided, according to tradition, to contact the young designer Rob Parry
Among other things, he is also known for the red mailbox that can be found in the Dutch street scene for years. After a series of designs, according to various sources, the basis for the "Lotus Armchair" emerges, which not much later is included in the supply program and would grow into a true design icon.
At its introduction it is one of the most strikingly designed seats of its time, the bold step to go for minimalist "Dutch Design" proves to be a hit and the chair is soon on sale in several countries. In the Netherlands, the chair quickly became a common piece of furniture in (semi) publicly accessible buildings, such as town halls and government offices, as well as in libraries and theaters.
If in the first half of the 1960s you were looking for something extremely modern, something of top quality and something extremely comfortable to sit in, this model is what the exclusive interior design store would want to sell you.
Over the years, several variations on the "Lotus" theme emerged, almost all of which ended up in modern interiors; this one, for example, has a chrome-plated iron base, wenge wood frame and upholstered armrests.
This particular specimen, from the first owner, has been cherished all these years, the iron frame is still in very nice condition, the wood completely original.
The upholstery including cushions and construction was completely renewed in 2023 and looks more beautiful than it ever was. The very best foam, the finest fabric, and the best upholsterers with experience with specific model, have made this armchair a true work of art.

Jump is a fire-retardant and dirt-repellent upholstery fabric. The combination of striking colors and beautiful patterns creates a contemporary look.
