Rik Wouters ""Portrait of a Woman"" oil on oak panel 25 x 30 cm
The Belgian artist Rik Wouters died at the age of only 34, but his oeuvre is worth seeing. In barely ten years, Rik Wouters created an extensive body of work consisting of paintings, sculptures, drawings, and etchings. Rik Wouters' work is considered part of the Fauvism movement.
Education
Rik Wouters was born on August 21, 1882, in Mechelen. His mother died when he was 6 years old. After primary school, Wouters worked as a woodcarver in his father's furniture workshop. He also took classes at the academy in Mechelen. It was during this course that he met Ernest Wijnants. In 1899, he studied for a short time at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. He was married to Nel Duerinckx no coa.
