Rik Poot (1924-2006) was born in the working-class neighborhood of Far West in Vilvoorde, Belgium. As a child, he became deeply fascinated by the craftsmanship of his father, a bronze caster who made grave ornaments. He became a prominent Flemish visual artist, focusing primarily on bronze sculptures and metal assemblages. Most of his works are installed in public spaces.
