Rietveld coloured trio-shaded floor lamp by Hagoort Lighting, The Netherlands, 1950s. This extraordinary floor lamp is a rare example of Dutch Modernist design and is believed to have been produced for the famous De Bijenkorf department stores in the early 1950s. Featuring three adjustable shades in the distinctive primary colours associated with Gerrit Rietveld and the De Stijl movement, the lamp is a striking celebration of Dutch design history.
Each shade is perforated along its lower edge, allowing small points of light to shine through and create a beautiful, playful effect when illuminated. The shades are mounted on elegant curved arms, and each shade features its own individual on/off switch, allowing the light output to be adjusted to suit different settings and moods. The round brass base has developed a beautiful patina over the decades, adding authenticity, depth and character to the piece. The shades remain in very good condition with almost no dents, a rare survival for a floor lamp of this age. While they show some surface scratching, this only enhances the lamp’s vintage appeal and original character.
When lit, the combination of the perforations, vibrant Rietveld colours and warm brass details creates a wonderful atmosphere. Rarely encountered on the market, this is a true collector’s piece that beautifully combines functional lighting, Dutch Modernism and mid-century design.
