There was a time when entertaining wasn't just about placing a few cups on a tray. The object itself was part of the home's decor. This piece takes us directly back to that domestic elegance of the 1950s. Within its wooden frame with clean lines, a bouquet of large flowers unfolds beneath the glass: generous corollas in shades of plum, wine-red, mauve, and old rose, connected by long brown stems that appear to have been drawn with a single stroke. The painter does not truly seek to reproduce nature. They reinterpret it. The flowers become almost graphic, with their broadly brushed petals, deep contrasts, and lighter highlights. The bouquet stands out against a cream background enlivened by broad oblique strokes, while a dark, flame-like border frames the composition. The decoration is hand-painted and protected under glass, a presentation that gives it depth and brilliance while preserving the painting. In the lower corner, a particularly recognizable signature appears: Germ. This signature is not isolated: other trays of the same design are also attributed to Germ, which allows the piece to be linked to an identifiable decorative production from the mid-20th century. As the precise identity of the artist or workshop 'Germ' cannot be established with certainty, we retain the signature as it appears on the work. The tray itself is just as characteristic of its era. Its wooden frame is extended by two beautiful cylindrical handles, generous and perfectly integrated into the overall design. The reverse side, plain and dark, contrasts with the refinement of the decorated face. Some signs of age and minor alterations to the decoration are visible in the photographs.
