Product description
A prie-dieu, a liturgical piece of furniture on which one kneels to pray to God.
It is most often a type of low chair with a step that serves as a kneeler (sometimes movable when the seat has a folding section), and an armrest, which can also serve as a book rest or lectern (a prie-dieu with a lectern).
This model is made of solid wood, offering excellent stability. The backrest features a finely crafted cross, the vertical supports are straight, and the front legs rest on turned feet in keeping with antique designs.
The armrest is upholstered in new green velvet fabric, secured with a regular line of decorative silver-colored metal nails.
The seat is wide and comfortable, also covered in new fabric with ex-voto motifs depicting stylized sacred hearts in vibrant colors. These motifs offer a contemporary and luminous contrast while remaining true to the symbolic and spiritual theme. The studded finish highlights the traditional tapestry work, and all fabric-covered areas have been reupholstered.
It is in good condition, although it shows some signs of wear and previous woodworm infestation (treated). One of the uprights is slightly bowed.
This piece, both decorative and steeped in history, will appeal to antique enthusiasts as well as those wishing to create a space for contemplation or add a touch of old-world charm to their interior.
