Giuseppe Armani didn't sculpt birds; he captured a moment. This great tit is caught in a posture of striking realism. Head bowed, tail held vertically, finely modeled feet grasping a cluster of yellow and green autumnal leaves. The plumage is rendered with remarkable naturalistic precision. Vivid yellow-green belly, intense black head and tail, cream cheeks, wings striped with black and white. The hand-painting, in a matte finish, gives the piece a depth and warmth that porcelain doesn't always achieve. The oval mahogany wood base with a burgundy varnish features an engraved Armani golden plaque on the front. Giuseppe Armani ( ), a Florentine sculptor trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Pisa, worked for Florence Sculture d’Arte. His animal and female figurines are actively collected today in Europe and the United States. Total height 14 cm, base 10 cm in diameter. Excellent condition, intact paint, no chips.
