Beautiful original watercolor by René Andreau (1870-1945), depicting a landscape in the south of France bathed in light, with cypress trees and ochre houses against a backdrop of hills.
Large format (42.5 × 34.5 cm), signed lower right.
Mounted on strong cardboard, with slightly damaged old Marie-Louise (see photos).

René Andreau was a French artist born in 1870 in Cosne (Allier) and died in 1945. A discreet painter, he was close to the poet Paul Verlaine and the painter Daniel de Monfreid.
His landscapes are imbued with silence and poetry. His work Le Berger (1905) is on display at the Petit Palais in Paris.
A rarity on the art market, his soft palette and contemplative gaze are captivating.

René Andreau werd geboren in 1870 in Cosne (Allier) en overleed in 1945. Hij was bevriend met Paul Verlaine en Daniel de Monfreid.
Zijn werk bestaat uit verstilde, melancholische landschappen. Een van zijn aquarellen (Le Berger, 1905) wordt bewaard in het Petit Palais in Parijs.
Zijn werk is zeldzaam op de markt en gewaardeerd om zijn ingetogen, poëtische stijl.
