His gaze is elsewhere. That's the first thing that strikes you. This Christ in profile doesn't seek to convince. He asserts himself in another way. Through the line, through the relief, through this composition built almost like an inner image. The crown of thorns becomes structure. The halo radiates outwards. To the left, the chalice appears, discreet, essential. Everything is contained. Nothing is excessive. The material, patinated in warm tones, complements the volumes without rigidifying them. It lets the relief breathe, capturing the light without ever harshly reflecting it. The plaque is removable from its wooden base. It can be placed, or displayed alone, depending on the space, depending on the intention. This is a production from the 1940s to 1960s, at the crossroads of a more modern, more refined religious art, yet still deeply rooted in its symbols. It's not an item you simply add.
