From the age of thirteen, André Taeckens (1906-1965) was apprenticed to stonemason Aleyn. Later he took modeling classes at the Art Academy in Ghent with Geo Verbanck. He became a sculptor and designer of medals. His preference was for figures, torsos, busts and portraits. He worked mainly with bronze, marble and stone.
