A magnificent work by Reiner Schwarz, full of humor and self-mockery: "Myself as a Painting Monkey." In excellent condition, never framed. Numbered (50/100), signed, and titled in pencil by the artist. Sheet dimensions: 61.5 x 44.5 cm. In excellent condition.
Reiner Schwarz is one of the greatest draftsmen on the German art scene! Because his extraordinary talent relentlessly focuses on the human face, German critics called him a "Menschenmaler" (Humanizer). Indeed, the face, a mirror of emotions: joy, fear, hurt, is at the heart of his work. Not infrequently, in his surrealist self-portraits, with great humor, even with biting self-mockery, he portrays himself as a dog, or—as in the sheet offered here—as a monkey.
Reiner Schwarz is from Hanover, but moved to Berlin for his studies, where he has remained ever since. He worked there under the wing of one of the most important German galleries, Brusberg, which also published his graphic work.
