Magnificent set of Swiss art pottery from the renowned Reber family workshop in Heimberg (Thun region). This complete service comprises a large pitcher and six matching cups.
This set features the iconic "Owl" (Eulendekor) motif, a modern and stylized reinterpretation of traditional Bernese majolica. With its graphic decoration of large yellow eyes against a deep black background, this set is a masterpiece of Swiss design from the 1950s and 60s. The owl motif from the Reber workshop is among the most sought-after by collectors of 20th-century European ceramics. Finding a complete seven-piece set (pitcher + 6 cups) in this condition has become rare on the market. While the Heimberg pottery has produced owl motifs since the 19th century, the handwritten signature in yellow slip seen in your photograph is typical of the Reber family workshop's production during the mid-20th century. It was during the 1950s and 1960s that their production of drinking sets (pitchers and tumblers) with this specific decoration reached its peak.
This style was influenced by artists such as Margrit Linck-Daepp (who trained in Heimberg in the 1920s) and other designers who transformed traditional peasant pottery into modern design objects from the 1940s and 1950s onward.
