A very rare vintage model by British designer Robin Day, produced by Hille in the early 1950s, following the design research developed for the Royal Festival Hall during the 1951 Festival of Britain.
This piece boasts a particularly sculptural silhouette with its organic molded plywood armrests and its extremely slender black tubular base, typical of Robin Day's early English modernist designs.
The chair retains its original condition with:
— original frame and base,
— wood veneer with a beautiful patina,
— original vintage fabric upholstery,
— Hille self-leveling glides.
The fabric features a superb graphic texture in shades of anthracite gray. The overall effect is both architectural and decorative.
This model remains poorly documented in public archives and appears to represent an early or transitional variant between the experimental seating of the Royal Festival Hall and the more industrialized Hille productions of the early 1950s.
Exceptional condition despite some signs of wear consistent with age:
light marks on the black tubular base, discreet marks on the wood.
Dimensions:

A rare and highly decorative piece, ideal for a modernist, brutalist, or 20th-century design collection.
