Designed by Gillis Lundgren for IKEA, the Kon Tiki lounge chair is an iconic example of Scandinavian democratic design from the 1970s. Lundgren played a key role in shaping IKEA’s early identity, combining functionality, accessibility and a strong visual language. The Kon Tiki chair reflects this philosophy through its bold construction, relaxed proportions and distinctive folding mechanism.
This chair features a solid pine wood frame with visible grain, knots and softly rounded edges, giving it a warm and honest appearance. The structure allows the chair to fold flat and transition between a compact lounge position and a low reclining posture. Both the loose cushion and the suspended sling are executed in leather, providing a supportive yet supple seating experience.
