Product description
Rare and beautiful chandelier designed by Carlo Nason for A.V. Mazzega on the island of Murano (near Venice) in the second half of the 1960s. This chandelier consists of 21 structured Murano glass panes, each piece unique because it is handmade. A light reddish-orange shape (RAL color 2008) is enclosed within the transparent glass using the "Incamiciato" technique, the enveloping glasswork technique. Eleven, seven, and three glasses are suspended from the three rings, respectively. The structured Murano glass panes are each 20 cm high, 10 cm wide, and 1 cm thick on average. One glass section has a crack across the entire width and is missing a piece of glass, see photos 10 and 11. For this reason, the chandelier is priced much lower than a mint example. Incidentally, the chance that a perfect example of this rare chandelier will ever be offered is quite small. Depending on how the chandelier is hung in the room, this glass section will eventually become less visible, see photos 12 and 13. The chandelier comes with three LED bulbs; we can also supply classic incandescent bulbs; the choice is yours. The chandelier is adjustable in height. Condition: The glass parts are excellent, with the exception of one glass section that is damaged, as described above. Minimal signs of wear on the metal parts. Technical information: Material: metal (carbon steel), glass Dimensions: · Height adjustable from 63 to 80 cm (from the ceiling to the bottom of the glass) · Diameter of rings resp. 40, 25, and 10 cm Weight: 10.25 kg Electric power supply: 220 V Fitting: E14 Bulb: 3 * 4.2W ≈ 40W, 470lm, and 2700K Carlo Nason was born in 1935 on the Italian island of Murano, into one of Venice's oldest glassblowing families. Nason's first designs date back to 1959, and his innovative creations soon caught the attention of glassmaker Mazzega. A.V. Mazzega was founded in 1946 on the island of Murano in Venice, where the glass masters still practice hand-crafted glass techniques today. In 1965, the company proposed to Nason the possibility of collaborating on new collections. The collaboration lasted from 1965 until the 1980s and resulted in a series of legendary lighting objects, such as the Birillo lamp. Nason's glass designs have been exhibited in numerous museums and galleries in Paris, Milan, and New York. Carlo Nason is now 90 years old and still lives in Murano.
