Product description
Exceptional and rare Swiss Floor light, attributed to Carl Moor and manufactured by BAG Turgi, created around 1950 or in the early 1950s. The sculptural construction unusually combines lighting and furniture and is a particularly characteristic example of experimental Swiss lighting design of the post-war period. The lamp stands on a heavy, black lacquered round base. From there, a very delicate construction of slender metal or brass rods develops upwards. At mid-height, there is a two-part, black lacquered shelf with softly rounded contours. Particularly striking is the large, organically shaped metal shade. Its widely projecting reflector surface flows smoothly into a narrow, funnel-shaped lamp body. A series of circular openings at the edge forms a fine decorative detail and also allows small points of light to emerge when switched on. The lamp head is connected to the curved support via a brass joint and can be adjusted. This allows the light to be directed in different ways – as focused reading light or, via the large reflector surface, as indirect, atmospheric lighting. The largely preserved material effect is particularly beautiful. Black lacquered surfaces, the light lacquered reflector, and the naturally patinated metal and brass elements over decades create an exciting contrast. Visible screw connections and joints are not hidden but are part of the technical design. Condition: Good authentic vintage condition with clear signs of wear appropriate for its age. The black lacquered surfaces show scratches, minor paint loss, and abrasion, especially on the shelf and base. The metal and brass parts have a distinct natural patina with discolorations and traces of oxidation. Smaller age-related surface marks are also present on the light lampshade.
