Product description
Magnificent and rare Indian window mirror, handcrafted in Rajasthan from hand-painted buffalo bone, decorated with horsemen and camels in the style of Rajput miniatures. Antique folk art, early 20th century, 1920s-1930s. Beautifully executed, detailed painting, high-quality craftsmanship. Wooden frame covered with bone panels. Antique hardware. Opening shutters. The mirror may have been replaced more recently. There is an illegible inscription carved into the wood on the inside of one of the shutters. 36.5 cm high, 36 cm maximum width, 3 cm thick. Very good overall condition. Signs of wear consistent with age, small areas of paint loss revealing the bare white bone, one rivet missing on the back (not affecting functionality), lock stopper missing. Traces and old markings on the reverse and the number 46 circled in pen inside one of the shutters, possibly a manufacturing mark or former reference number. Weight approximately 2 kg.
