Rainbow Vase by Aknuny Astvatsaturyan
Leningrad Art Glass Factory, USSR, 1960s
A rare and visually striking example of Soviet art glass, this “Rainbow” vase reflects the bold creativity and technical mastery of the Leningrad Art Glass Factory.
Crafted in two-tone crystal, the vase features a deep cobalt blue core that gradually transitions into soft green tones toward the rim, creating a luminous, almost glowing effect. The exterior is defined by clean, precise geometric forms, giving the piece a strong architectural presence, while the interior is formed with flowing, wave-like contours. This contrast between precise geometry on the outside and fluid interior lines creates a fascinating optical play, where light is refracted into rhythmic, almost hypnotic patterns.
Designed by Aknuny Astvatsaturyan, this piece embodies the experimental spirit of 1960s Soviet glassmaking, where traditional craftsmanship met modernist design and sculptural expression.
Condition:
Very good vintage condition. Minor surface scratches are present, consistent with age and use. There is also a small internal craquelure, which is a result of the production process and not a defect, adding to the unique character of the piece.
A sculptural and highly decorative vase that will fit beautifully into modern interiors, as well as mid-century settings, bringing color, depth, and artistic presence to any space.
