RAAK ‘KREKEL’ TABLE LAMP – MODEL R-60 BY OTTO WASCH (1962)
Designed by Otto Wasch for Raak Amsterdam in 1962, the Krekel (Dutch for “cricket”) is a brilliant example of minimalist mid-century modern design. A slender brushed silver metal tube, supported by two adjustable pins, forms the core of this ingenious and highly functional lamp. Subtle and sculptural, it demonstrates how a simple construction can yield surprising versatility.
The lamp measures 30 cm in length with a 5 cm diameter, and can easily be tilted or repositioned by adjusting the supporting pins. The on/off switch is cleverly placed at the bottom of the lamp, emphasizing its streamlined appearance. This original 1960s example retains the authentic Raak sticker and is in very good vintage condition.
As recommended in the original Raak catalogue, the lamp performs beautifully with a mirrored bulb for indirect illumination of artworks or posters, or with a conical spotlight bulb for reading and ambient lighting. Whether used for accent lighting or as a design statement, this lamp embodies the functional purity and aesthetic clarity for which Raak is known.
A rare and refined collector’s piece—ideal for enthusiasts of Dutch design and mid-century lighting.
