PP Møbler PP501 Round Dining Chair Material: Soaped ash Seat: Cane The "Round One" by Hans J. Wegner is one of the most famous pieces of Danish furniture. In its own unassuming and simple way, it captures the essence of traditional Danish woodworking and design philosophy. The chair is considered Hans J. Wegner's magnum opus. With this chair, Wegner came into his own, without the inspiration of other cultures and designers that had influenced his earlier work. This chair was created in a formal and construction language unique to Wegner. It also became the cornerstone of a wide range of designs that formed the core business of several Danish furniture manufacturers for more than a decade, and in fact, became the main force behind the major international breakthrough of Danish Modern. On September 26, 1960, the chair was prominently featured during the first televised American presidential debate between Richard Nixon and John F. Kennedy. Both presidential candidates sat in The Chair during the debate. This event drew more attention to the chair and the emerging Danish modern furniture trend. It is therefore often called the "President Chair" or "Kennedy Chair."
