A remarkable Chinese ginger jar with lid, made of famille rose porcelain. The vase features a rare purple ground, finely decorated with blooming peonies, birds and butterflies.
The inscription "Dayazhai" refers to the Empress Dowager Cixi (19th century), but this piece was produced in the early 20th century, when the style continued to be popular for both domestic and export markets.
