This iconic postmodern table lamp was designed by Robert Sonneman for George Kovacs in the 1980s and produced by Boxford Holland B.V. The design is characterized by a striking architectural form typical of postmodernism of that decade. The lamp is made from a combination of metal, brass, and glass. The construction consists of a matte black base and shade, connected by two polished brass uprights with chrome accents. An elongated, clear glass plate with rounded corners is integrated into the shade, creating a floating effect. The lamp is equipped with a halogen light source (model VHB-004BK, 220V, 100W) that emits a warm, diffuse light through the perforated metal grille on the underside and has a dimmer in the base. The lamp works well, but the dimmer falters slightly in the mid-range. The object was produced in Taiwan, as stated on the original label. The fixture is in very good condition, consistent with its age and careful use. The materials have retained their original luster and finish well, contributing to the authentic appearance of the piece. This lighting object looks excellent on a desk, sideboard, or side table. The geometric lines and material use make it a suitable element in both postmodern and eclectic interiors.
